Mary and Pata |
We are stopped at a gas station getting water, snacks, and Gatorade
when David strikes up a conversation with a woman named Mary. She lives nearby and we get to talking about
the heat, the corn, and the local schools.
They are getting a new elementary school which is big news and there
will be a ribbon cutting on August 19th.
She told about how she and her three children
had met some other Northern Tier cyclists and how fascinated they all were by
the idea of traveling by bicycle across the country. She shared that her daughter is an avid
cyclist, although due to a disability she rides a hand cycle and she
competes. I was impressed with the
amount of strength it must take to go that fast on a hand cycle. I am sure that I would be dropped in a race
with her!
I am sorry we didn’t get to meet her children, but hope that
they read this and learn to follow their dreams like we are following
ours.
